The Rotary Club of Langport and Somerton continues to support the Forget-me-Not Memory Cafe at CURRY RIVEL VILLAGE HALL. This facility meets every Tuesday afternoon for two hours for the benefit of anyone who is suffering with memory loss (be it from the result of a stroke, Dementia or Alzheimer's) and their carers.
This amenity is so important for the clients and their carers, who number on average 10-15 per week, as it allows them to mix with other people who understand their needs; it gives them all a lift from their daily routine. Clients and carers really look forward to Tuesday afternoons and these meetings have become a lifeline to these people who suffer the on-going problems related to the challenges of memory loss.
We have approached the local Doctors surgeries and they now actively promote our Café to their patients. We are also hoping to attract residents from care homes.
This cafe is run on a completely voluntary basis, organised and staffed mainly by Rotary members and volunteers from the Curry Rivel W.I. We have fund raised by staging a Barn Dance and Horseshoe Tossing competition and applied for grant from local councils. Our next challenge is to apply for Charitable Status, which will improve our ability to fund raise when necessary.
