The Rotary Club of Langport & Somerton was formed in 1948 and is part of the international network of Rotary International that is found in some 200 countries across the globe with a total membership in excess of 1.2m people.
Our Club has about 20 members, being professional men and women of our locality who adhere to Rotary's mantra of "Service Above Self"
We meet weekly (although busy members are not required to attend every meeting) on a Thursday evening at 6.30pm usually at The Langport Arms.
Our usual sequence of meetings is as follows:-
Our social diary might include such events as a Burns Night, President's Night, St George's Day Dinner, Croquet or even the cidermakers tradition of Wassailing!

Our projects are spilt into two categories - local or international, and for the 2016/17 year our President has asked the Club to support BIBIC (a locally based charity supporting brain injured children) and the Nepal Trust (an international charity creating better living conditions in parts of Nepal), as well as continuing to support our own Forget-me-Not Memory Cafe.

The Rotary family starts with the Clubs, who in turn work within their District, then through the national body, Rotary International of Britian & Ireland (RIBI) and then through to our international body, Rotary International.
District 1200 covers the Clubs within Somerset, West Wiltshire and West Dorset and provides the leadership required to make the 52 Clubs within the District thrive.
The District adminstration provides support for Club officers, organises District events & competitions and hosts an annual Conference.
The Langport & Somerton Club has had strong representation on District over the years boasting two District Governors and a number of other members serving the District in various capacities in our 68 year history.

Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland is the association of Rotary clubs within England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. We have over 1,800 clubs consisting of more than 50,000 men and women from all walks of professional life.
Our clubs are based in local communities where members meet on a regular basis to enjoy friendship, networking and to plan projects that will benefit the lives of others. Clubs utilise the skills, expertise and dedication of their members to help improve the lives of people in communities both at home and abroad.
We are community champions who stand up for our communities both locally and overseas. We support those who need help, we strive to improve lives and we bring about positive change in our neighbourhoods. Every event, initiative or project that we run – whether it is local, national, international or online – is rooted in the notion of community. This is because we believe that society works better when communities work together.
Rotary International is at the centre of the Rotary movement and drives the strategic direction of the organisation through the network of District Governors.
While Rotary can be found in 200 countries we all have the same ethos of Service Above Self and adhere to the Four Way Test:-
